St. Pius X School participates in the Federal Lunch Program. All students must eat in the school cafeteria. A hot lunch, as well as milk, may be bought in the school cafeteria at a nominal price. Students may bring their lunch if they so desire. FAST FOOD LUNCHES AND CAN SOFT DRINKS ARE NOT ACCEPTABLE AT ANY TIME. Courtesy is expected at all times from each and every student in the cafeteria. Good table manners are the rule.
Obviously an operation of this size does not run by itself. It requires good administration, good cooks, and parent cooperation. The parent is needed to help the staff prepare and serve the food, clean the kitchen and wipe the tables.
Cafeteria Voucher Program
School families pay $40.00 at the beginning of the year by the cafeteria management to cover cafeteria costs. This fee is redeemable by working as a volunteer four (4) times during the course of the school year and receiving $10.00 per day of volunteer duty.
Signups for volunteer days are held at the beginning of the school year. Volunteers are expected to show up. If substitutes are used the substitute will receive the rebate.
There are no maximums for substitutes. If a person misses their appointed day they may ask and be appointed a substitute for a future day.
Volunteers will sign a voucher form in the cafeteria office on the day of their service. The cafeteria manager will verify their service and turn the voucher into the business manager for payment.
Checks will be written and issued on the Monday following the week of the volunteers work. Check will be given to the cafeteria manager to distribute.
No other form of payment will be issued. This includes tokens or cash.
If there are not enough scheduled work times your name will be put on a list and you will be contacted as a substitute. It is the responsibility of the parent to remember the days on which you agree to work. The menu and the names of workers come home with the PAWPRINTS. Workers should arrive no later than 10:00. If you are unable to work on your day, please call the Cafeteria Manager in the cafeteria (341-4900, ext. 7) by 9:30 A.M. Do not call her at home for any reason. You may call her at the cafeteria after 8:00 A.M.
Lunch tokens will be sold on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday mornings between 7:00 and 7:25 at the cafeteria office. Tokens will not be sold after 7:30 since students are required to be in their classrooms at that time. Cost of lunch, including beverage, is to be determined prior to the beginning of the year. Drink alone is 35 cents. Cash is also accepted for lunch, in place of tokens. After a total of 3 days of not paying lunch charges, the student will receive a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, fruit, and beverage. Payment for this lunch is 75 cents.
Some students qualify for either free or reduced lunch. Guidelines set up by the U.S. Department of Agriculture determine the eligibility of students. Information regarding this program may be obtained from the school Principal. All inquiries and applications are kept completely confidential.
